NOICE
MONITORING

Measuring noise levels and workers' noise exposures is the most important part of a workplace hearing conservation and noise control program. It helps identify work locations where there are noise problems, employees who may be exposed to noise levels that can cause hearing loss, and where additional noise measurements need to be made. This information also helps determine appropriate noise control measures that need to be put in place.

DUST
MONITORING

Dusts are tiny solid particles scattered or suspended in
the air. The particles are "inorganic" or "organic,"
depending on the source of the dust. Inorganic dust can
come from grinding metals or minerals such as rock or
soil. Examples of inorganic dust are silica, asbestos, and
coal. Workers can be affected by a variety of illnesses
caused by the dust they inhale in their work
environments.

Light Level
MONITORING

Whether in industrial or office settings, proper lighting makes all work tasks easier. People receive about 85 percent of their information through their sense of sight.
Appropriate lighting, without glare or shadows, can reduce eye fatigue and headaches; it can prevent workplace incidents by increasing the visibility of moving machinery and other safety hazards. Good quality lighting also reduces the chance of incidents and injuries from "momentary blindness" (momentary low field vision due to eyes adjusting from brighter to darker, or vice-
versa, surroundings).

FIRE SAFETY ASSESSMENT

To help prevent fire in the workplace, your risk assessment should identify what could cause a fire to start, such as sources of ignition (heat or sparks) and substances that burn, and the people who may
be at risk. Once you have identified the risks, you can take appropriate action to control them. Consider whether you can avoid them altogether or, if this is not possible, how you can reduce the risks and manage them.

CHEMICAL SAFETY ASSESSMENT

A chemical risk assessment involves the identification of chemical hazards in the workplace and recommends controls to reduce exposure and minimize harm to workers. It assesses the transport, storage and handling of hazardous
substances so pre-emptive action can be taken to reduce harm.

PROCESS
SAFETY
ASSESSMENT

Explosive atmospheres can be caused by flammable gases, mists or vapours or by combustible dusts. If there is enough of the substance, mixed with air, then all it needs is a source of ignition to cause an explosion. Pharmaceutical manufacturing has activities that produce explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres. Examples include places
where work activities create or release flammable gases or vapours, such as dispensing, sieving, granulation, fluid bed drying.

CAPABILITY
BUILDING

Safety capability is the overall potential and ability for an
organisation to maintain strong safety and recovery and return to work outcomes in a modern work environment.
